PEOPLE Farewells Last summer, we said goodbye to a number of members of staff who retired after long and distinguished Teddies careers: Edmund Hunt after 33 years, Phil Jolly after 27 years and Debra Clayphan after 10 years. We also said goodbye to Oakthorpe HM Liz Boast, who left to become a Housemistress at Clifton College; to Hari Choudhury, to pursue a PhD at Columbia University; to Philip Mallaband, to become Head of Theology, Philosophy and Ethics at Rossall School after a decade at Teddies; to Jonathan Taylor, to teach Maths at Winchester College; to Chris Irvine, who leaves for Le Rosey School in Switzerland; to Katie Greves, to teach English at Headington; to Naomi George, to return to the family farm; to Emily Moss, to become Head of Economics at Boston Spa Academy; and to Svenja Schmidt, to take up a teaching post in Germany. Linda Raabe-Marjot will retire at the end of this academic year. Personal News Congratulations to Jamie Davies and Annaliese who were married in August; to Peter Swainson and Jen on the birth of twins Huw and Iolo in September; to Nic Bond and Liss on the birth of Rupert, also in September; and to Cathy James and Scott on the birth of Lucas in October.

New Appointments In September, we welcomed Shweta Soni from Kent College as Head of Learning Development (see page 9); Dr Julia Adlam from St Swithun’s as Head of Psychology; Charles Wallendahl from the Hurlingham Academy as Head of Theology, Philosophy and Ethics; Mike Jackson from Scarborough College as Head of Economics; Jack Thompson from Ardingly as Head of Academic Music; Laura Compton from the Royal Hospital School to teach Maths; Jack Davies, former Teddies Graduate Assistant, to teach Classics; Louise Duffy from Knutsford Multi Academy Trust to teach English (see page 34); Ian Dunn from Headington to teach Physics; Jack Fairbrother, another former Teddies Graduate Assistant, to teach Music Technology; Juliet Ferguson to teach Ceramics; Andrew Halliwell to teach Design Technology; and Christopher Tyer to teach History. Internal Appointments In internal changes, Heather Murphy became Head of Physics and Huw Thomas, Head of History; Anne Laure Davies became Assistant IB Coordinator, with particular responsibility for the Creativity, Action and Service elements; Marc Gillingwater joined the IB team as Extended Essay Coordinator, with

particular responsibility for the Sciences; and Lauren Mackrell became Assistant Head of Personal, Social and Health Education. Rachel Bellamy became Deputy Head Pastoral and James Cope Assistant Head Pastoral. House Appointments In Houses, Alex Waring became HM of Oakthorpe (see opposite). New Assistant HMs are: Paolo Torri in Cowell’s, Becky Drury in Field House, Ross Simmonds in Apsley and Laura Compton in Cooper Lodge. New Resident Tutors are Christopher Tyer in Cowell’s, Holly Hyams in Sing’s, Matt Strachan in Field House, Jack Davies in Apsley, Marc Gillingwater in Avenue, Louise Duffy in Oakthorpe and Heather Murphy in Cooper Lodge. Further Appointments New sports roles are held by Louise Bowen, Head of Sailing, Jonny Thomson, Head of Harriers and Matt Strachan, Head of Tennis. Ethan Powell joined us as Ceramics Technician, Fiona Little as Assistant Biology Technician, Celia Waterfield as Human Resources Administrator, Rachel Moffatt as IB Administrator, Amy Hill as Communications Manager and, in the Beyond Teddies team (see page 20) Emily Rowbotham as Community Manager and Zoe Baker as Administrator.

In Memoriam We are very sad to report that former Head of History, Jonathan Lambe, died on 17th December at home surrounded by family and friends; he will be deeply missed by everyone in the Teddies community. A full appreciation of Jonny’s life and long Teddies career will appear in the next issue.
