31 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE

Olly Gurney Which Pathways and Perspectives are you studying? Drama and Classical Languages. Are the lessons different from your GCSE lessons? Yes, because all the work you do is continually assessed and in the lessons you cover a much wider range of material. For instance, in Classical Languages we studied Cicero and his speeches, and the devices he used to convince the Senate – which also links in with English. Give me an example of projects or topics you’ve enjoyed so far. I really enjoyed looking at ‘one man shows’ in Drama. We studied the work of one of The North Wall’s performers, Lewis Doherty, to analyse how he fills a whole stage with just himself.

Sade McNichols- Thomas Which Pathways and Perspectives are you studying? Ancient World, Drama, and Music and Music Technology. How are your Pathways and Perspectives courses different from your GCSEs? I was new to the School this year, so I didn’t know much about the differences before I came. Pathways and Perspectives are less stressful because they aren’t assessed by exams, but they are thought-provoking – they’re new and challenging but enjoyable. Ancient World is really interesting. We had a debate connecting ancient heroes to superheroes in modern culture, which was really fascinating. The courses are more flexible – you can explore different areas. For example, in Music, we had the amazing opportunity to create some music for the The Crucible . The really interesting thing about these courses is that you don’t need to be top of the class to get a good grade – you can get a good grade by working hard.
