65 ST EDWARD’S CHRONICLE
The Boys’ U15A team had a very busy season, taking part in two different cup competitions. Having progressed through past Stowe, the team played a very strong Whitgift side on Upper 1, a tough game but it set the bench mark for the season. They retained their County Cup title, beating MCS and Abingdon on consecutive days to progress through to the Regional part of the competition. Defending 129 against Stowe, we bowled them out for 115, with Harry Bewes taking 3 wickets to get to the South West Regional Finals Day. Sadly, the team lost in a close match against Marlborough but beat King Edward’s School to finish third on the day. Thomas Bratby was outstanding in both games scoring 76* and 64, Evan Cowley scored 50 against KES. The team won 10 games across the year with a final highlight being Pasca Mutekwa’s 100 vs Marlborough in the final block fixture. The U14As had a tough year results-wise but they kept going with a lot of positivity and enthusiasm. They won one game against MCS, a true highlight of the season defending 88, Paddy Brett and Frazer Ashton both taking 3 wickets. In Gaudy Week, Field House retained their Junior House Cricket title, beating Kendall in the final for the second consecutive year. Thank you to all the staff and coaches involved with cricket over the last year. The programme is still brilliantly led by our Cricket Professional, Dave Simpkins. We are looking forward to another competitive season in 2026.
unbeaten 40s. Ollie Rogers also impressed with a four-wicket spell. Despite setbacks, the team bounced back with dominant wins over Lord Wandsworth and Cheltenham. Five debutants at various points during the season all individually made a strong impact, showing great promise for the next few seasons to come. Congratulations to Captain Alex Corbett, Bertie Gowen, Hector Higgins and Ollie Rogers who all received full colours at the end of the year. The Boys’ 2nd XI finished the season with thrilling victories over Marlborough and Winchester, completing the season with a 3/3 ratio of results! The U16As had an extremely strong season, finishing second in the John Harvey Cup with close victories over Bradfield and Winchester. The Junior girls’ teams had a lot of success across the year. They sadly lost to St Helen and St Katharine in both cup competitions but also came away with lots of positive results. The Girls’ Junior As, brilliantly led by Hettie Banks and Suri Shah won seven games against strong opposition including Bradfield, Marlborough, Cheltenham and Haileybury. Jemima Foster was the top run scorer, averaging 84 with the ball, and the wickets were evenly mixed across the squad. Early in the season, Suri scored her first 100 for Teddies against Downe House in the first round of the 100-ball Cup. The Girls’ Junior B team were successful against Haileybury and got very close to winning several other matches – a season to build on for next year! For the first time ever we also fielded a Girls’ Junior C team on a couple of occasions.
current squad in a great showcase of cricketing spirit and competition. The Girls’ 1st XI had a solid season with a lot of highlights but slight disappointment in the National Cups following their success last year. Standout performances included Aimee Diab’s second 100 on Upper 1 vs Downe House, Suri Shah’s brilliant 80 against Cheltenham, Isla Scott-Dalgleish’s 3 for 20 and Bella Frieda’s 3 for 16 in a crucial game vs a strong King’s Worcester side. A thrilling tie against Bradfield showcased the quality of the team with a vital run out off the last ball with scores level at 175. The highlight of cricket week was a comprehensive win against the MCC in our annual timed game, Suri Shah carried her bat scoring a century for the 1st XI, finishing on 102*. Suri ended the season with over 400 runs which is very impressive! A massive positive was the integration of the Fourth Formers who all made a real impact, bringing energy and proving they’re ready to play at this level. The 2nd XI played one competitive fixture against Winchester with a couple of stalwarts continuing to train and get involved where possible across the whole term. The Boys’ 1st XI enjoyed a similar season to the girls; they gave strong performances on the pitch but the results didn’t consistently go their way. Highlights of the season included Bertie Gowen’s six-wicket haul vs Bradfield, Tino Mutekwa’s 80 and five for against Radley followed by scoring 95 vs Marlborough, and multiple key innings from Evan Cowley – including a 110-run opening stand with Alex Corbett and two
