In memoriam

Sir Bob Reid 1934–2025

Sir Bob Reid, a long-standing and hugely committed member of the St Edward’s community, died in May. He was a Governor from 1987 to 2016 and Chair of Governors from 2000 to 2006. Sir Bob and his late wife Jo had three sons who all attended St Edward’s. Sir Bob had an illustrious career, which brought many benefits to St Edward’s. He was Chairman and Chief Executive of Shell International and Chairman of British Rail; he was also Director of the Bank of Scotland and then Deputy Director, retiring when it became the Halifax Bank of Scotland Group. He was Chancellor of Robert Gordon University from 1993 to 2004, and took a great interest in a number of trusts, especially those assisting the training of young musicians. He received a Knighthood in 1990.
