JOE McPARTLIN TAKES OVER (FOR ONE SEASON) AS MASTER I/C CRICKET JIMMY JACQUES RETIRES AS HEAD GROUNDSMAN WITH PROFESSIONAL BRIAN EDRICH TAKING OVER SOME OF HIS DUTIES THE ABILITY TO WIN CRICKET MATCHES IS AGAIN AT A PREMIUM THIS YEAR. ONE IS ACHIEVED, THIS MEANS THAT ONLY 10 WINS HAVE BEEN RECORDED IN THE 1980s TO DATE THIS IS AGAIN A VERY YOUNG TEAM, WITH THREE 16 YEAR OLDS, UNDER CAPTAIN ROBERT SADLER, IN HIS THIRD YEAR IN THE SIDE. NINE OF THESE PLAYERS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN 1986 SIX HALF CENTURIES ARE SCORED - BUT ALL ARE INDIVIDUAL EFFORTS, UNSUPPORTED BY TEAM-MATES CONCERNS EXPRESSED IN THE ‘CHRONICLE’ THAT CRICKET IS NO LONGER TAKEN AS SERIOUSLY AS IN THE PAST AT ST. EDWARD'S. THE ‘INVASIVE’ ACADEMIC TIMETABLE IS BECOMING EVER MORE A FACTOR TOO
