Dear players, coaches and parents, I am delighted to be welcoming you back to St Edward’s for the IAPS hockey tournament. Hockey is an integral part of the sporting calendar here at St Edward’s, enjoyed by all pupils across the school year. We also have a number of pupils playing club, regional and representative hockey at the moment. A close connection with Oxford Hawks Hockey Club has opened up opportunities for players who aspire to take their hockey to the next level. Knockout Stage In the event of a draw in the knockout matches, the winner will be decided by: 1. A period of ‘Golden Goal’ extra time up to a maximum of 5 minutes

*Head-to-head result between two teams is the result of the match played between the two tied teams. **Sudden death is started by the team that did not start the shoot-out and players may proceed in a different order from the initial best-of-three round.

HOCKEY at st edward’s Hockey is played year-round at St Edward’s, a focus for girls in the Autumn

CUP COMPETITION The top three teams will progress to National Finals.

Games. We have had a number of boys go through the recent U16 & U18 selection process, playing in the recent Performance Centre Challenge Cup. Former pupil Rupert Shipperley captains Wales and plays for Great Britain. He has recently played in the 2018 & 2022 Commonwealth Games, the 2019 Men’s EuroHockey Nations Championship and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. His sister, Zoe Shipperley, also a former pupil, has played as a defender for England, competing in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and winning a silver medal.

Term and boys in the Spring Term. Keen players can also choose hockey as a Monday and Wednesday afternoon activity/preseason option across all three terms. We are passionate about Hockey at Teddies and past and present pupils have enjoyed success playing in international, national, regional and county championships. Millie Holme, former 1st XI girls’ captain, currently plays for Wales, and represented them in the 2022 Commonwealth Teddies has invested in two fully floodlit astro-turf pitches which are used for training and matches. Pupils also have access to an Athletic Development Centre, a physiotherapist and full access to the School-owned Nuffield Health Fitness and Wellbeing Centre. All players have sessions with our specialist Strength & Conditioning Coach. Pupils are coached by a number of national league hockey players and our highly qualified in-house team – Head of Hockey, Ed Ellis has played high level university and currently still plays in National Division 1.

SPORTS AWARDS

Sports Awards are available at 13+ and 16+ entry. At 13+, we are looking for pupils who will make a major contribution to our main competitive sports and may already be a county standard performer. At 16+, award holders will be performing at a high, often Regional or National standard and will take a lead role in our Senior 1st teams during the Sixth Form. St Edward’s takes sport seriously and has always had a first-class sporting reputation. We compete in a strong and demanding fixture list against schools, clubs and counties and aim to give as many pupils as possible a chance to play competitive sport. Many of our teams successfully take part in county and national tournaments across a wide range of sports. Sport at the School is driven by a team of highly skilled coaches, a number of whom have played and/ or coached at international level. At St Edward’s we recognise the benefits of sport for all pupils and offer a programme which aims to foster true enjoyment at all ability levels.
